The Red Japanese Maple is upright with bright red leaves throughout summer. Exceptional landscape or Japanese garden planting. An eye-catching specimen with exceptional foliage. A beautiful addition to a small garden or border.
When choosing a location, keep in mind that the Red Japanese Maple has a moderate growth rate. It grows up to 30 feet in height and 20 feet in spread. It can be planted in zones 5 to 8. Prefers full to partial sun and moist, well-drained soil. Prefers some shade during hot weather.
How To Start These Seeds:
Scarification: Soak in hot water (120 degree F), let stand in water for 24-48 hours, cover seed with water
Stratification: Drain water from seed. Mix 50/50 with peat moss, place in polybag. Warm stratify at room temperature 70 degrees for 60+ days, then cold stratify for not less than 60 days and up to 120 days.
Germination: Sow seed 1/8 inch deep, tamp the soil, mulch the seed bed
Other: Natural fall sowing in mulched beds
